1978 Honda CB550K
This 1978 Honda CB550K was a frankenbike, someone had added parts off of the CB550 Sport, so the kickstart was hitting the 4>1 exhaust, the carbs were from a '74-'76, the airbox was gone and replaced with pods, it was just a mess. I overhauled the engine, found someone put the head on incorrectly and messed up all the valve guides (the replacement I bought on Ebay had the same issue, so this took a bit to sort out). The wiring was the worst part, and took quite a while to figure out. Eventually though, it went back together. It wasn't running very well, but it did start. I handed the bike off to my son at this point and he spent a year learning the ins and outs of carbs, and got it running well. Hew painted the tanks and side covers, cleaned up the chrome, added a windscreen and saddlebags, and it looks presentable now. He's looking to get a bigger bike, so I'm hoping to hand this one off to my daughter.
