1964 Ford Fairlane - Round 2
Not sure if the date is right or not, it's probably close, but after 20-some years, the Fairlane was pulled back out. Before it went into its long slumber, I did manage to get the driver's floor cut out and the front end put back together, but that was it. So my son and I (more him than me) put it up on jackstands, and removed the rear end and suspension and got to work replacing the frame rails. I had originally bought set of the short ones from Crites, but the rails were far worse that originally thought. So, if anyone needs a set, give me a shout.
Work took a couple of months. We made a jig out of 4" square stock, and bolted it to the frame so we would have something to hold the new rails precisely in place when they were welded in. I don't have any pics of the jig, and it end up getting reused into other projects, but I think the rails went in pretty damn straight. We still need to do the trunk floor on the sides, but waiting on the wheel wells before we do the trunk (more on that later)
I did get the driver's side floorpan replaced. After that, we took the front suspension off, as well as the doors, and pulled out all the glass. I had bought a rotisserie many years ago from a guy that had made one for his '64 that I met in a forum (this was around 20 years ago). So the car finally made it up on the rotisserie at this point as well. I don't have any pics that show this very well, these pics are the car on stands, everything that follows, it's up in the air.
More pics here.
